Roots to Sky Sanctuary is proud to welcome Ilene Evans (Artistic Director of Voices from the Earth, Inc) as a 2023 Fellow for our “Re-Storying the Potomac” project, which gives new voice to the land, the waters, and the ancestors who shaped this experiment in freedom. We convene the living, breathing memories, stories, and narratives of marginalized and underrepresented peoples of the Potomac River and Appalachia. In this way we welcome all members of our local and regional communities to imagine, remember, and create new stories from these common experiences.

Workshop Retreat Objectives This opportunity is for storytellers, actors, performers, scholars, teachers, librarians, museum interpreters, and Chautauquans.
Participants will engage in: Researching Character Monologue, Structure and Scripting, Physical and Vocal Coaching, Storytelling and Shaping, Finding the Dramatic Arc, Physical Characterization, Staging and Presentation, Individual Coaching Sessions, Journaling – Reflection, Toning for Body, Mind, and Voices, and Maintaining your Instrument
Registration Sliding scale of $600—$1000. We have a limited number of partial scholarships available for members of historically underrepresented communities. Registration and scholarship forms linked below!
Includes:
– Two (2) virtual pre-retreat personal consultations with Ilene to ensure you are fully briefed and prepared to maximize your investment and this outstanding opportunity;
– Group work and individual coaching;
– Dormitory style bedrooms and bathrooms;
– Nourishing meals for Thursday dinner, Friday, Saturday, Sunday breakfast; and
– Guided walks/trails across Roots to Sky Sanctuary’s 125-acre property
