The upcoming planning retreat at Roots to Sky marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Wildseed and the Family Arts Museum. These two organizations share a common vision of making nature more accessible and inviting for Black and Brown families. With a commitment to inclusivity and diversity, they aim to foster a deeper connection between people of color and the great outdoors.
Wildseed’s mission, centered around providing camping and outdoor gear, educational resources, and organizing outdoor adventures, aligns perfectly with Family Arts Museum’s dedication to celebrating family, home, and community as forms of art. Together, they intend to craft innovative and engaging programming that empowers Black families to explore, appreciate, and thrive in the natural world.
During this retreat, seven to ten families, each with their extended chosen family and support network, will come together to brainstorm and strategize. This gathering embodies the spirit of unity and shared purpose, emphasizing the strength that lies in community and cooperation. Roots to Sky, nestled in the heart of nature – at the head of the Potomac River and in the mountains that many Black people fled to and through on their way to freedom, provides the ideal backdrop for this collaborative effort, where ideas will flourish, connections will deepen, and plans will be set in motion to bring more Black families into the embrace of the great outdoors. It is a momentous step towards a future where nature knows no boundaries, and every family can experience its wonders.
The fall camp is at full capacity. If you are interested in joining the waitlist for our spring camp, please follow the link below!
